I installed 3 8 solid ash floors 16 years ago in my house.

Is 5 16 hardwood too thin.

Flooring 3 8 or 1 2 inch thick is usually.
Typically solid hardwood floors usually only need to be buffed and polished to last for generations unless you buy wood that s too thin.
Hardwood flooring materials are available in a range of thicknesses but solid hardwood flooring generally ranges between 5 16 to 3 4 inch thick.
From a historical perspective thinner wood floors most notably 5 16 were used in several time periods and are still being used today in some markets with the california bay region being one.

Carpets thank you for your reply.
Since it s solid you can t install it in the basement or on concrete below ground level but it s thin enough to glue down to concrete at ground level or install over plywood at or above ground level.
																	Thick x 2 1 4 in.
You should have at least 1 8 of an inch of wood at the top of the board above the tongue and groove for a full refinish to be safe.

Bruce natural reflections oak cherry 5 16 in.
Wide x random length solid hardwood flooring 40 sq.
																	Ft case 5 72.
Most hardwood planks are manufactured with tongue and groove so that they interlock.

Sanding wood floors that are too thin can lead to the boards splintering.
I speak from experience on this.
The older product had one common characteristic.
Here is a comment from a flooring forum that should warn you against thin hardwood floors.

They were milled without a tongue and groove that required top nailing or fastening into the face with a specialized tool called a.
I take what you are saying to mean that both 5 16 and 3 8 engineered wood are very thin therefore it comes down not to the the small thickness difference but to the manufacturing mill process of the wood itself.
Please correct me if i am wrong.
																	I just refinished them.

5 16 inch solid this is a thinner version of the 3 4 inch hardwood floor.
Our thin wood sizes are not nominal for example if you order a 6 wide board you will get a board exactly 6 wide or wider.
