Installing Wax Ring Tile Floor

Remove the newspaper or towels from the drain opening in the floor. The plastic sleeve will fit snugly into the drain opening. To do this turn off the water and empty the tank and the bowl and then disconnect the water. If it will compress more consider getting one with a flange to limit wax extrusion into the drainage path.

Grasp the wax toilet ring and press the wax top of the ring around the outlet horn close to the back of the base. Tighten the nuts with a wrench. The wax ring should be compressed around 1 2 to 3 4 it s initial height once installed. You have two options for placing the new wax ring.

Then compress the toilet against the wax ring to make a good watertight seal.

Add the plastic washers first then metal washers and finally the nuts to the closet flange bolts. Place the wax ring and toilet. Unscrew the bolts holding the toilet. The benefit to this technique is that you can be sure that the ring is in the proper position when placing the toilet over the flange.

Choose a wax ring of the appropriate size. The type with a polyethylene plastic sleeve or flange provides a great seal and fits most standard drains.
