Vinyl siding colors are not restricted to the limited five or ten pastel colors that were the choice for so many years. However light fixtures must be secured to an electrical box. You don t have to cut into the siding to mount the block. The mounting blocks are paintable and available in different sizes and profiles to fit most types of flat and lap vinyl siding styles.

Nail 1 1 2 inch thick wooden furring strips to the concrete wall at 4 foot intervals using concrete nails. There are hundreds of colors to choose from when you decide on installing vinyl siding. But if you want a garage that is both sturdy and attractive you may want to cover your garage s exterior concrete block wall surface with something more becoming than the concrete block. Furring strips are basically 1x3 or 1x4 strip of wood that are vertically nailed every 16 inches on center using masonry or concrete nails.

Use the cut off piece to start the next row of siding. Installing 2 inch wide treated strips is necessary for a solid base for the house siding. Cinder block walls are strong and inexpensive but they aren t always pleasant to look at. Using self tapping screws such as those by tapcon will fasten the strips to the concrete securely but concrete nails can be used as well.

Step 2 install a strip of insect netting along the bottom edge of the concrete wall by nailing the netting to the furring strips. Concrete is an inexpensive way to create a strong cover. A concrete block garage is just about as sturdy as any garage can be. Fortunately you have many options for improving a cinder block wall.

The number of strips you need depends on the length of the wall. If you can install the finish on a traditional wood frame structure you can install it on an icf wall. Building an insulated concrete form icf building or house allows for the application of many types of exterior finishes. Vinyl siding is a great material to dress up a concrete block structure.

The strips can be ripped from 2 inch by 4 inch lumber or plywood but they should be at least 3 4 inch thick. Easiest and only way to install vinyl siding over the cinder block wall is to nail on something called furring strips. Masonry veneers stucco panel siding vinyl or wood siding and fiber cement boards. The block we show here has a built in electrical box so you don t need the one in the wall.
